Rave about Reiki

However, before this reiki course I felt like it took a little bit of my energy each time. I wanted to be able to comfortably hold space consistently for my clients without feeling depleted. This is exactly what I feel I got out of the course. Through the reiki self practices, I feel grounded, confident and present enough to support clients in their health journey without affecting my own energy. This means I can do more of what I love while respecting my own values and boundaries around work life balance and giving my best to the people I work with.

I’ve always loved my work and what I get to do everyday as a personal trainer and health coach. I also love learning new skills for my personal development. I strive to improve my health (physical, emotional and mental) in some way or another and recently I’ve been more focused around the emotional and mental.

The last few months I’d felt overwhelmed with a series of things; where I want to take my business next, developing new ideas, collaborations, prioritising my health, new work opportunities… the list goes on. I felt like my mind never had time to fully rest. It was constantly busy thinking and overthinking.

My reiki therapist, that I have seen for many years, suggested I do a Reiki 1 course – a two day program learning powerful relaxation techniques, self empowerment and healing practices.

I had a lot of reiki treatments during my final year of school because I was experiencing a similar level of overwhelm, as well as feeling sick and fatigued. So I though this was the perfect time to learn some of the practices myself.

Over the weekend we learnt a series of breath and meditation techniques to centre our minds and energy back into the base of our belly (which is where our physical, emotional and mental energy stems from). Taking the focus from our busy minds deep into our body. We also learnt a series of hands on ‘self healing’ practices to connect with our own bodies.

I felt completely safe and supported. There were moments where emotions came up that felt super uncomfortable (the nature of this work) that I wasn’t even consciously aware of. It made me aware of thoughts and feelings that I hadn’t even realised.

What a lot of people don’t realise is that our body holds on to so much emotion. Anger, grief, shame, embarrassment, sadness… you may have pushed it out of your mind but it’s still being held in the body.

The daily implementation of the reiki practices since has completely changed how I think day to day. I feel so much calmer and relaxed in my work. I’m able to genuinely hold space for my clients all day long. I’m clear about the things that I need to get done and steps I need to take in various areas of my life.

Most of all it allowed me to recognise the power of being kind and gentle with myself. I’ve changed the way I treat myself. I genuinely feel more loving towards myself and others, I now honour my boundaries as I know it’s a form of self respect, and worry less about what other people think.

Reiki treatments can be so beneficial for everyone, particularly kids or teenager going through exams or stress at school, busy mums trying to balance work and home life, someone that experiences chronic pain, and for people who find themselves overthinking consistently. For anyone that has tried reiki but would like to explore or learn more about this practice, I can highly recommend this course with this amazing teacher.
